How We Work

We plan trips the way we would want one planned for us: hotels we can vouch for, a few things a day, and always time to rest.

Here is how it works, from the first note to the trip home.

1. Tell us what you have in mind

Start with our Plan a Trip form. Tell us where you would like to go, or whether we should surprise you, when and for how long, who is traveling, and what matters most: hotels you have loved, your pace, food and wine. An idea is enough. We then write to you to set up a call.

2. The proposal

We send a written plan, day by day. Each hotel comes with a plain note on who it is for, and every hotel, table, cellar and sight carries one of the four labels below, so you know how we know it. You tell us what to change, and we change it.

3. Booking

Nothing is booked until you approve each item. Bookings are made through Fora Travel, the travel agency that powers Winslow & Fioramonti. You pay each hotel directly, or Fora Travel for some bookings, never us. We hold the tables that need holding and the cellar visits as soon as the hotels are booked, because in a busy season they fill first.

4. Preparation

Before you leave, we finish the details that make the days easy: a driver for wine days so that you can both taste, which room to ask for, the closing days that shape the week, and practical notes on what to wear and how to get around. If you are traveling for a birthday, an anniversary or a honeymoon, we tell each hotel.

5. During the trip

You travel with the full plan, every booking in it, and the notes we would give a friend. We also give you each hotel’s direct line, your driver’s number and how to reach us during the trip.

6. After

When you are home, tell us what worked and what you would change. We keep it for your next trip, and it shapes what we send other travelers.

How to read our labels

Every hotel, table, cellar and sight on this site and in our plans carries one of these four labels.

  • Tested (month and year): we did it ourselves.
  • Seen: we went in, or ate or drank there, without staying or doing the whole thing.
  • Recommended by [name and role]: proposed by a source we name, such as a hotel, its staff or a guide we have used, and not yet tried by us.
  • Suggested: researched by us, not yet tried.

Questions about how we work

How are you paid?

Hotels and other travel companies pay us a commission, through Fora Travel, when you book with us. You pay the hotel’s own rate, the same as booking direct, and you pay each hotel directly, or Fora Travel for some bookings, never us.

What do we gain by booking through you?

Judgment: which hotel, which room to ask for, which table to hold and in what order, from people who have been there, or who say plainly when they have not. Many hotels also add benefits for our clients through Fora’s preferred partner program, such as breakfast or a credit to spend during the stay, and your plan lists any that apply. No one can promise an upgrade.

Can we keep our hotel points and status?

It depends on the hotel and the rate. We check before we book and note it in your plan. If you would rather pay for a stay with points, book that stay yourselves, and we will plan the rest of the trip around it.

Is anything booked before we agree?

No. Nothing is booked until you approve each item.

Do you only send people to places you have been?

No, but we always say which is which. Every hotel, table, cellar and sight in a plan carries one of four labels: Tested, Seen, Recommended by a named source, or Suggested, which means researched and not yet tried.

We only have an idea. Is that enough to start?

Yes. An idea is enough. Send us a note through our Plan a Trip page, and we will write to you to set up a call.

How far ahead should we plan?

As early as you can for busy seasons. In truffle season the best cellars and tables in the Langhe fill weeks ahead, and a house of six rooms like Palazzo Tiglio fills before anything else in the plan, so we book those first.

Where do you plan trips?

Italy first, where we live, then the rest of Europe and parts of Southeast Asia.

Start planning

Tell us your dates, who is traveling and what you have in mind, even if it is still only an idea, and we will set up a call.
